Newport Shepherds

Newport Shepherds visited our school today and brought some sheep and sheepdogs with them. The children had a fantastic time seeing the dogs round up the sheep and hearing the calls used to tell the dogs what to do to herd the sheep. They had a border collie dog and two puppies with them; a border collie pup and an English sheepdog pup. They all got great attention from the children and were so friendly. The children learned about the different breeds of sheep that they had such as the Blackfaced sheep which lives in Mayo and the EasyCare sheep which loses its wool and doesn't need shearing!!!
